About Salina Turda - history
Founded in Roman times, exploited by the Austrians, Hungariansand then by the Romans, Turda Salt Mine consists of Rudolf,Ghizela Mina, Mina Theresa, Franz Josef Gallery.
After leaving the Romanians in Transylvania until the eleventhcentury, the Turda salt mines was abandoned. Since 1075, mine is mentioned in several documents of the Hungarian Chancellery andXV century begins large-scale exploitation of salt vein. During the Austro-Hungarian domination of the mine, mine was expandedgreatly, becoming one of the major sources of salt of the Empire.
Was the most prolific period in the history of me several hugegalleries and rooms were carved in salt mining and mine got some of the best equipment available at that time. Since the end of the nineteenth century, salt has entered a period of decline and wasdefinitely closed in 1932 due to low efficiency.
Twenty years ago, mine was reopened as a tourist attraction, andthree years ago has been restored and turned into what it is today.

In the period January 2008 - January 2010 took place a process to modernize the Turda Salt. After it was created a new look andenhanced functionality of Turda Salt. In Mina there Rudolf now a concert hall, sports ground, Bowling, miniature golf, but also ahuge gondola and a lift installed for people who go harder. In MinaTeresa built a wharf on the lake with boats that allow touristswalking on the salt lake.
